The History Of Cary, NC 27518

Cary City first started as an ordinary settlement in the mid-eighteenth century. It was named Bradford’s Ordinary and retained its legacy as a settlement for a century more before it started gaining attention. Bradford’s Ordinary had a major railways track built through it in the 1850s, which made it a part of a very popular transportation route and thus earned more visitors.

When Frank Page and his wife, farmers from Wake County, decided to take ownership of the area, nearly three hundred acres of land around the railway track was named Cary after a politician. This was the foundation of Cary City. Page turned the settlement into a town, by introducing a post office, sawmill, and more. Later, he also set up a hotel in the town for any passersby using the railway.

Cary City became official in the 1870s, and its first mayor was none other than the founder, Frank Page. Later in the nineteenth century, another railway track was built in Cary that connected to the Raleigh area, and this made the city extremely popular. Cary grew, even more, when the Research Triangle Park nearby gained popularity and started developing itself exponentially.

The Research Triangle Park is America’s biggest research Park that has three major universities nearby, namely NC State University, Duke University, and the University of NC. The research Park attracted a lot of job seekers, and this caused Cary City to be one of the best places for settling down due to its convenient location. Cary City was also the first in North Carolina to have a Planned Unit Development, which means a whole community is first planned out before they begin developing it.
